Lightweight drop weight, Zorn Mini, 5 kg, 3.535 kN. offers construction companies a lightweight weight that is specially developed & based on the well-known test specification TP BF StB, part B 8.3, provides reliable tests of the degree of compaction in trenches down to 120 mm in width.
The oval shape and a minimum width of 100 mm, suit the geometry of narrow fiber cable trenches. The area of the plate corresponds to that known from a conventional lightweight weight with a round plate of 150 mm in diameter. Maximum normal stress under the load plate is 0.2 MN/m².
When backfilling narrow fiber cable trenches, the material is typically laid in thin layers and compacted continuously. Layer thicknesses of 150–200 mm are common and smaller than in traditional road openings. ZORN MINI is therefore equipped with a 5 kg drop weight, which is adapted to these conditions. Return stroke of 3.535 kN provides optimal conditions for precise testing of soil layers.
Cable trays for fiber-based broadband are often both narrower and shallower than trays for traditional utility cables. Nevertheless, the quality of compaction must be in order when the cable trays are refilled. When conventional drop weights are too large to perform measurements in such narrow trays and therefore unsuitable for the purpose.
